Campaigners say terminal legal challenge a waste of money
31.01.08
Protesters have said that Coventry Airport's High Court appeal over its plans for a new permanent passenger terminal capable of handling up to two million passengers a year (announced yesterday) will be a 'waste of time and money'. The airport owners' appeal against a government decision blocking their bid to build a new permanent passenger has been scheduled for early October.
The airport's owners claim a public inquiry decision is legally flawed. However, Archy Muir, who chairs the residents' group opposing the plans, said the airport would waste 'an awful lot of money' because it would not win.
Mr Muir may be right. However, for the airport it looks like 'last chance saloon'. If they don't win, then they don't have a viable passenger flights business. We were surprised when the application was rejected. We would be even more surprised if that decision is overturned.
