Talks with groups looking to reopen airport
30.12.09
Talks are taking place about reopening Coventry Airport, the BBC reports. The city council, which owns the freehold to the site, is holding discussions with two consortiums in a bid to reopen the airport, which was closed earlier this month by operator West Midlands International Airport ahead of a winding-up hearing at the High Court.
Deputy council leader Kevin Foster told the BBC that he was hopeful one of the consortiums would take over the airport. He said that the council is committed to keeping the site as an airport as it is good for the economy.
Passenger flights stopped in 2008 but the airport continued to be used for business and freight flights, plus flying schools. Administrators PWC have said they are looking at a range of options to secure its future.
