Scheme to deal with disruptive passengers working
28.09.07
Police officers based at Coventry Airport say that they are winning the battle against unruly and disruptive passengers. The news comes almost a year since they launched a new scheme at the terminal aimed at identifying and dealing with antisocial behavior from passengers.
The scheme include training all airport staff - from those on the gates to check-in attendants - to spot disruptive individuals and to nip any bad behaviour in the bud. Staff remind passengers of the protocol's ultimate sanction - refusing to let them fly, with tickets being made void without a refund.
Sergeant Andrew Ware leads Warwickshire Police's presence at the airport. He said: 'The protocol has worked extremely well. I am sure that we are faced with matters that fall into this plan on a daily basis.'
'Over the past 12 months there have been 7 incidents of note. However, that doesn't count for all the occasions that members of staff have had to talk to passengers who are disgruntled or who were mildly abusive.'
