Drugs, guns and passports reported stolen from Customs warehouse
17.12.07
Illegal contraband seized by customs officers has gone missing from a secure depot close to Coventry Airport. Press reports suggest that the items stolen include confiscated passports, guns and £80,000 worth of cocaine. Police have been called in to search for the goods that disappeared from the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) store before last weekend.
A HMRC spokesman refused to comment on claims that drugs, firearms and passports have been stolen. He said security had been stepped up and investigations were continuing, but did not reveal when or how the items disappeared.
The depot is used to store thousands of pounds worth of goods seized by customs officers after it enters the UK illegally in parcels shipped from abroad at the UK's largest air freight depot near Coventry Airport. As you will see from our Coventry Airport News page, there are regular seizures of large quantities of drugs and other items from the depot.
