Airport air museum to expand

Coventry air museum, the only one of its kind in Europe where aeroplanes are maintained and prepared for flight, have ambitious expansion plans and they also hope to increase the number of visitors to the site, the Coventry Telegraph reports. The Airbase museum, based at Coventry Airport, plan to increase footfall and also to operate more school visits and corporate events.
Airbase, which is home to more than 30 vintage planes operated by Air Atlantique, was officially reopened last month. Clive Dickin, Airbase director, said: ‘We plan to attract more primary school children. We feel what we have to offer here would complement what they learn in school. We also intend to open one of hangars up to corporate events in addition to our conference centre.’
Starting from August, its managers plan to roll out a range of initiatives including more educational resources for children and sessions for engineering students in further education. They also plan to increase the area it covers by at least 16,000 square feet, with the potential to build a new visitor centre.
Mr Dickin said: ‘The heart of Airbase is about keeping the spirit of working planes alive, so as well as static planes in hangers we run working planes. People won’t get to see anything like this anywhere else.'
