Government funding bid fails

A plan to create 1000 jobs around Coventry Airport has been rejected for Government funding, the Coventry Telegraph reports. It was among nine Coventry and Warwickshire bids to the new regional growth fund rejected yesterday.
Multi-millionaire businessman Sir Peter Rigby, who bought the airport last year, wants to create 1000 jobs around the airport in Baginton, partly by leasing Coventry City Council land for industrial use, the newspaper understands. The scheme was among confidential bids to the Government’s new £1.4 billion three-year fund – intended to help boost jobs outside London.
City Labour politicians said they were a ‘disappointment’ for the region. The airport is considering whether to continue with the project, and could bid again in the second round next year.
