Cargo flights take off again
12.10.11
A deal has been reached to re-start cargo flights at Coventry Airport. Sixteen jobs have been created at the hub after flights were launched to Maastricht in the Netherlands, Lille in France and Dublin as a result of six-figure deal with cargo airline Atlantic Airlines.
Sir Peter Rigby, the owner of Coventry Airport, said the news is a statement of intent in his attempt to take the airport back to full operation. He said: ‘This is our first step on the way to becoming a commercial airport again. At the moment we have flying schools, business jets, general aviation and helicopter activity but the contract with Atlantic Airlines is an important milestone in terms of the airport returning to where it was previously.'
‘Cargo services were moved to Birmingham Airport when we closed temporarily in December 2009 and it has been a target to see these flights return to Coventry. This is a positive step for the business and a signal of our intent to continue driving the airport forward. We are already talking to other airlines to gain further business.’
