Another major drug seizure at freight hub
07.12.06
Cocaine worth more than £150,000 has been seized at Coventry Airport. The drugs were hidden in a consignment of buttons.
Smugglers had put small amounts of cocaine into 681 buttons in a package sent from Brazil to London. When customs officers prised the backs off the buttons they found each contained two grams of the drug wrapped in clear plastic. The package had a street value of £166,500.
HM Revenue & Customs discovered the consignment at the International Freight Hub at the airport. Detection manager at Coventry Airport, Neil Goodban, said: 'This latest seizure shows the skills and experience of our dedicated teams of officers in detecting this dangerous drug, despite the ever-inventive methods used by drug smugglers.'
