Thomsonfly passengers endure 40 hour delay
07.03.08
A Thomsonfly flight from Austia to Coventry Airport was delayed by 40 hours last weekend. Its 150 passengers spent two days stranded at airports in Austria and Germany after 4 flights were cancelled, with some fed-up passengers hiring a car to make the journey and still getting back to Coventry before the flight!
The flight was were due to fly from Salzburg to Coventry at 21:10 on Saturday evening, but at 23:00 the passenger were old the flight had been cancelled and were put up in an airport hotel. They were picked up at 08:00 the next morning to get our flight, but that was cancelled too, so they were taken by bus to Munich, Germany, where they were told a plane was waiting.
However, when they reached Munich, that flight was cancelled too, so they had to walk with all their luggage to another airport hotel for the night. They were then woken at 03:00 to catch a flight 06:00, but that was cancelled too, so they did not take off until 09:00.
Thomsonfly apologised for the delay. A spokesman said due to an ‘unavoidable technical problem’ with the outbound flight to Salzburg on Saturday, the flight from Salzburg to Coventry was delayed until Sunday. Freak weather extended the delay when the aircraft was diverted to Munich as Salzburg had become inaccessible.
Getting coach transport to Munich had taken some time, and the crew had overrun their working hours. This meant that they were obliged to rest for a short time, so the passengers endured another overnight delay.
