Airport retains one bag rule
07.01.08
Despite over 20 UK airports relaxing their hand baggage rule from today to allow passengers to carry more than one bag on to flights - including Birmingham International - Coventry Airport has yet to receive permission to make the change and will stick to the one bag rule.
The one bag rule was introduced in the wake of the liquid bomb plot in August 2006. It is being relaxed today at 22 UK airports including Heathrow, Birmingham and Manchester. However, the restriction will remain at over 40 large or regional airports including Gatwick, Luton and Liverpool, as they have not convinced the Department for Transport that they are ready to cope with the extra security checks relaxing the rule would require.
The restriction is expected to be relaxed at all UK airports from May. The list of current approved airports can be found on http://www.DfT.gov.uk/transportforyou/airtravel/airportsecurity/cabinbaggage.
