Cocaine found in prunes cargo
06.02.07
Customs officers discovered cocaine with a street value of more than £30,000 hidden inside a package of prunes at Coventry Airport parcel depot. A spokesman said the find showed the 'ever inventive' methods used to smuggle drugs.
Officers searched each individual fruit of the cargo and found cocaine wrapped in clear plastic in every one. The 143 dried plums contained 4.4g of the class A drug each, totalling well over half a kilo of cocaine.
The consignment had arrived from Guyana and was destined for Spain. No-one has been arrested but investigations are continuing, a spokesman said.
