Business group to help with airport sale

Business leaders in Warwickshire are to help with the Coventry Airport sale, the Post reports. The airport was put up for sale a month ago after struggling to find a replacement when Thomsonfly dropped it as a base last year. The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has now met with airport director Brian Cox to see how they can help with the sale.
There have been several expressions of interest in the airport, sale advisers KPMG said, and the Chamber has offered to meet potential buyers to demonstrate the level of local business support. Alan Durham, of the Chamber, told the newspaper: ‘Our stance has been to support the controlled expansion of the airport. While it is obvious that the withdrawal of mainstream passenger airlines is a real blow to the owners, they are convinced that the airport has a viable future in different markets such as executive jets, freight and other activities such as training and flying schools.'
‘The airport supports and serves a great number of businesses around its fringes and its continued presence is vital for them. We have said that, if it helps, we will meet any potential buyers to underline how important we feel the airport is to the region and to emphasise our support.’
Coventry airport has been run largely as a cargo hub since Thomsonfly moved out in 2008.
