Busy weekend at Coventry Airport
04.05.08
Coventry Airport had its busiest weekend of the year so far last weekend, as rugby fans descended on the city for the semi-final of the Heineken Cup. The airport was packed with hundreds of supporters who flew in for the clash between Munster and Saracens at the Ricoh Arena last Sunday.
Rob Sweeney, head of operations at the airport, said they handled at least a thousand more passengers than an average weekend. He said: ‘We had an extremely busy weekend. We handled several charter aircraft carrying rugby supporters as well as the Munster team, directors and managers.'
‘The aircraft ranged from Boeing 757s to Boeing 737s as well as a number of 60 and 70-seater aircraft. In addition we handled over a dozen private jets.'
