Thomsonfly reviewing Coventry Airport operation
03.10.08
Thomsonfly is ‘reviewing its operations’ at Coventry Airport following steep falls in passenger numbers this year, the Courier reports. The airline said today that it is examining the future of its services from the airport in a bid to help it be more ‘efficient and flexible’. It is due to announce a verdict within a week.
The holiday airline is the only passenger carrier at Coventry, following the departure of Wizz Air last month. However, passenger numbers at the hub have been dismal all year. The terminal handled 25,000 fewer passengers in July than in the same month last year, a drop of 38%.
But the airport’s managing director, Chris Orphanou, is unconcerned. He told the newspaper: ‘Thomsonfly had a review last year and it resulted in us getting sleeker, faster aircraft. The industry is very depressed generally. I don’t think we’re doing any worse than comparable airports.’
